FAQs
Frequently Answered Questions
How do you enroll your child?
It’s easy!
We accept new applications throughout the year and keep a waiting list. Names are taken from our waiting list on a first come, first serve basis. The King’s Daughters Day School does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or ethnicity.
After you’ve filled out an application and your child is offered a spot, you will begin the enrollment process with one of our Family Workers. After you’ve completed the enrollment process, you will be given a date for your child to start. Prior to your child’s first day, you will be required to pay a registration fee of $35 and place a deposit of two weeks tuition before your child begins. When your child leaves our school the deposit will pay for his/ her last two weeks once we have been given two weeks notice.
How much will I pay?
Our fees are on a sliding scale, determined by family income and size. We need two consecutive pay stubs or a current W-2 form to determine individual family fees. Tuition payments are made every Monday for the upcoming week, and are payable by check or cash. We also participate in the Child Care Subsidy Program. Our program staff will be happy to assist you with your application so let us know if you need help.
As a non-profit organization, we rely on timely tuition payments to operate and we have these tuition policies:
If your tuition is overdue by more than one week your child will not be admitted.
Arrangements for late payments must be made in advance. You may contact any member of our team for assistance.
Parents are responsible for payment regardless of their child’s attendance. (i.e. if your child is sick or on vacation for several days, you are still required to pay for a full week.)
How do you keep children safe during the pandemic?
You can visit our Health and Safety page to learn more about what we’re doing to keep the children, families, and community safe.
What are the qualifications of the teachers?
All of our teachers have undergone intensive training in the High/Scope Educational Approach. Our teaching staff hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) or a more advanced degree in early childhood education and hold New Jersey State Teacher Certification.
Can my child take a vacation?
We are closed for vacation two weeks per year. One week for Christmas and one week in the Spring. If you wish to take vacation at any other time, you are required to pay full tuition for the weeks your child will not attend. This will secure your child’s enrollment in our program.
It’s the first day. What can I expect?
Starting a new school can be scary and exciting for both parents and their children. To make the transition a little easier for parents and children, we encourage parents to spend time in the class with their children before the first full day. If this is not possible, we ask parents to spend one or two mornings in the program to make the transition easier. This adjustment period allows the child to feel safe in the classroom and often alleviates parents’ anxieties. To help children transition easier, parents may wish to bring something from home such as a family picture. Most children acclimate easily within the first few days and quickly become excited by our stimulating environment.
What will you need to bring with you?
The King’s Daughters Day School makes every effort to provide a stimulating, exciting, and nurturing environment. We provide a range of activities and it is not necessary for your child to bring any toys to school. All your child will need are:
A crib sized blanket and flat sheet
A complete set of change of clothes (including socks and underwear).
Pull-Ups/Pampers and wipes if needed.
My child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or needs additional support. Can my child still attend?
Yes, our curriculum is individualized and supports children development according to their needs. If your child is receiving services such as speech or occupational therapy, services may be provided on premises. Our teaching and Family Services team will also help you with the evaluation process if needed.
My child doesn’t feel well. What should I do?
If your child is not well, do not send them to school and keep them home until they are well enough to return. Your child may need to take a Covid-19 test before returning. Call the center and speak with the Nurse or the Family Workers to get further guidance.
How will I know how my child is progressing?
Teachers conduct assessments throughout the year, document, and evaluate your child’s progress. This information is shared with you at our Parent Teacher Conferences which are held three times per year. You can also communicate with your child’s teacher and the Family Services team through Class Dojo.
I’d like to do more. How can I participate?
We rely strongly on parent participation and there are many ways that you can help us! Ask our Family Workers about joining our Parent Committee, participating in our Board of Trustees and for the schedule of our monthly parent meetings.
Please note, certain activities may be temporarily postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please see our programs page to find out more.
